Im always told to go at least a few days before to allow redness to go down. No point in paying to look good on the beach if you look sunburnt

Definitely a few days before. I'm also going away this Memorial Day weekend, and it's my first time as well, so i did a little research. I set up an appointment for tomorrow. You want to go a couple days before because you shouldn't go out in the sun or swimming for about 24 hours before and after the wax. And plus, you want to give the redness time to go away, which is a couple hours. Hope this helped!
